And this is the Woolen Pear and Red Horse Rugs,

A local fiber art studio owned by Pam, the master rug-hooking artist behind so many of the beautiful pieces you see in these photos hanging around her shop.

I knew before I walked into this store that I would not be able to walk out without at least one little tiny purchase. Yes, I have a thing for fabrics, even though I’m mostly collecting and dreaming up projects for the days when I’ll have more time on my hands.

When I stepped foot into the Woolen Pear it was like I had walked into a magical little world full of wonderful colors and warm wool fabrics and fibers. It was amazing! I found out later that many of the fibers and fabrics in the shop were actually hand-dyed right in the back studio.

Soon after entering this fabric haven I was greeted by Pam, the creator behind the Woolen Pear and Red Horse Rugs. Not only did she help me pick out a beautiful piece of fabric from the stash of pretty remnants (yes they have those too) but she also introduced me to the wonderful world behind all these fabrics.

The world of “hooking”! I actually knew very little about it. My grandmother used to have a framed piece of art  a pretty bird, which had been handmade by my grandfather using hooking artistry. I was always fascinated with that piece on her wall and wished I had seen how he created it.

Well, I finally got to see how it’s done. Pam was so nice to invite me (and my camera) to stop by at one of her hooking classes that she teaches in the back of her shop; her studio, where creativity takes form. This particular class was a beginner class for children. Pam teaches hooking artistry to all levels and all ages. I found it quite interesting when she told me that at the beginning of each workshop she notices how everyone is restless and chattering, but as they get working and more into their piece, everything and everyone settles down, relaxes into a focused, more present and peaceful mind. That’s exactly the kind of moment I walked into when I showed up towards the end of the workshop.
